This half term, year 4 pupils are reading a story called ‘VarJak Paw’ by SF Said. The story is about a Mesopotmian cat called Varjak, who is forced out into the city when the sinister Gentleman and his two menacing cats take over his home.
Varjak learns the ‘seven skills’ of martial arts throughout the story. The children have been enjoying the story so far and the different cat characters with different personalities.
For English, the focus has been on formal letters. The children have written a formal letter addressed to, ‘The Rare Breeds Society’ to give information about a rare Mesopotmian cat they have ‘spotted’ at Hammond School!
The focus on Geography this half term is rivers. So far the children have learnt about the water cycle and have made a water cycle in a bag - you may have wondered what was stuck on the classroom windows at pick up! The children will be observing their bags over the next few weeks to see the condensation droplets.
Our Science unit of learning is focusing on conservation. We have learnt about the seasons and how they differ in different parts of the world and what effect this has on the ecosystems.
Our DT lessons over the next few weeks will be focused on making biscuits! The children will start with taste testing, make a plain biscuit in groups and then design and make their own biscuits adding in ingredients such as: chocolate, sprinkle, honey etc.
We have started our unit on fractions in maths. So far we have learnt about what a part is, what a whole is and moved onto what a mixed number is.
