Year 1 - Science & Art

This week year 1 have been scientists and artists! We started the term by exploring the school grounds looking for flowering and non-flowering plants.

 

Using the photos we had taken of what we found, we sorted plants into different categories; flowering and non-flowering, long stems and short stems and trees and flowers were just some of the children's suggestions. We also got the opportunity to dissect plants, helping us to learn and identify the different parts.

 

From this, we then looked at artists that used plants or landscapes in their drawings. We compared the styles of Beatrix Potter and Vincent Van Gogh and had great fun creating our own pieces of art in their styles - we were so impressed with the work the children produced!
