Year 5 News
This week, our Year 5 students have been working incredibly hard during assessment week, demonstrating great focus and perseverance. Well done to everyone for their efforts!
Alongside their hard work, the week has also been filled with lots of fun activities. We had the fantastic opportunity to visit Collingwood School to watch their production of Footloose, which was thoroughly enjoyable and left us all inspired.
The children also took part in Outdoor Learning Day, where they explored nature and collected natural resources to create beautiful pieces of artwork. They also spent time sketching the local school environment, developing their observational and artistic skills while enjoying the fresh air.
It’s been a busy but rewarding week, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by all our Year 5 students!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Computing
Year 5 are pulling together all their skills in sequencing, selection, repetition, variables , testing and debugging to create a fun game in Scratch called Catch the Dots. The aim of this game is to spin a controller with the arrow keys to catch different coloured dots that fly in from the 4 corners of the screen. A point is scored for each correct match and a life lost for a mismatch. The dots appear faster and faster over time making the game slowly increase in difficulty.
The Highest Score is also recorded. The children are introduced to a different type of variable called a List Variable that stores a set of coordinates so that the game can be made more challenging with the dots appearing from random locations. They are also introduced to the concept of clones so that multiple identical sprites can be created and finally they will learn how to duplicate and edit code to speed up the coding task.
