Headteacher Welcome

Welcome to Hammond School

Fran hooker headshotIt is my very great pleasure to introduce myself as the headteacher of Hammond Junior School. I am proud to be the headteacher of a school which has been a feature of the local community since the 1960s. Hammond Junior School is a ‘village’ school in every respect. Staff are supportive, kind and welcoming and you will find that Hammond Junior School is the kind of village school you have been looking for. This is a school where you will get to know all the staff and feel part of the community from your first step inside the building. We are lucky enough have a supportive and committed Parent’s Association who offer a number of exciting and fun community events throughout the year, please pop along to an event to get a flavour of the school in full flow! Events can be found here.

We work in partnership with Lightwater Village School. This partnership enables the two schools to work together to share a clear and coherent vision for school improvement. Our leadership team works across both schools. The SEND and Mental Health team also work across both schools to ensure the very best transition for all pupils. This team approach ensures that your child receives the very best in Infant and Junior practice as well as a strong offer of transition so that they do not find the move between Infants and Juniors challenging. We are ably supported by talented and passionate staff and a supportive School Strategy Board.

At Hammond Junior School it is our vision to join you in partnership to develop well rounded, confident and responsible individuals who aspire to achieve their full potential. We set high expectations for staff as well as children, we want every member of our school community to be the best version of themselves in order to reach their potential. We are all a ‘working progress’ and we invite every member of the school community to work on things they find challenging, to improve themselves and be their best advocate.

At Hammond Junior School we are very proud of the many opportunities that your child will have to enable them to develop as successful learners. We develop a culture of learning all subjects including the arts, humanities and sport. We offer specialist teachers in computing and PE and a wide variety of clubs and extra-curricular activities to help your child develop their skills and passions.

The exceptional facilities at the school enhance this offering and provides children with opportunities to learn. We have superb facilities within our school grounds which help shape and guide our curriculum and provide numerous opportunities for our children to grow, learn and flourish. We have a newly upgraded IT suite to incorporate a podcasting and recording studio. A food tech room, Art room and Music room and direct access to the local country park enables us to utilise learning opportunities in the outdoors.

We will be holding a number of engagement events to allow prospective parents opportunities to visit the school throughout the year. Please see the timetable of events here

We look forward to welcoming you,

Francesca Hooker
