Year 3 News
In Year 3, we have used our historical knowledge of how Tudor life differed between the rich and the poor to create and perform a shadow puppet show. We set up our ‘stage’ and used our scientific knowledge of how shadows are made to showcase our research. The children thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with each other and watching other performances.
Recently, we have started exploring Tudor art and looking in depth at portraits. We have discussed how Tudor portraits were a way for the rich to show off their wealth and power. We analysed portraits and identified symbolic items and their meaning. Now, the children are beginning to develop their drawing skills by using the grid method and learning various shading techniques including stippling, hatching and scribbling. We have also started to experiment with colour and creating skin tones ready for our own Tudor style portraits.
In English, we have been looking at the story, ‘ Stella and the Seagull’. The story is about a young girl who wants to make a difference to the environment in her local community after her seagull friend gets unwell from eating plastic from the beach. We have started to discuss eco-issues within our school environment and why something should be done about it along with what actions could help. The children are building up to writing a persuasive speech about their chosen eco-issue e.g. littering, energy wastage.
In Maths, we have started to look at parts and wholes in preparation for our lessons on fractions. We have been identifying a whole and considering what parts it could be made up of. We have explored equal and unequal parts. Also, that we can construct a whole when given a part and the number of parts it consists of. We will be moving on to looking at unit fractions next week.
In PE, we are most of the way through our group dance to Clean Bandit’s song, ‘Rather Be’. This week, we have incorporated own our sequence of moves in pairs and further developed the dance whilst working on our coordination and team work. We are looking forward to completing our dance next week.
Within RE, we started looking at the Christian Easter Story. We focused on the events of The Last Supper and sequenced them into the correct order.
In computing, we have made good progress in using Scratch and our coding knowledge to develop our ‘Lost in Space’ game.
3EC have been working hard on preparing their class assembly. They have created an informative role play performance about how the Tudors came to power, the infamous Henry VIII and his six wives. We have thoroughly enjoyed creating and sharing our hard work
